Dr. Manoranjan Ghosh is currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts (SSLA), SIU, Pune. With a strong interdisciplinary background, his research interests lie at the intersection of climate vulnerability, risks, adaptation strategies, natural resource management (Forest Resources specifically), environmental economics, green urban planning, human-environmental relations, environmental justice, history of ecological thought, critical developmental projects and their impact on the environment, energy and just transitions, behavioural nudge to air pollution mitigation, Dalit environmental philosophy, and Himalayan environment. Dr. Ghosh earned his post-graduation in Geography from the University of Burdwan and a Ph.D. in Climate and Development from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, where he developed a novel vulnerability assessment methodology. His postdoctoral research at the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) in New Delhi, along with his tenure at the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), New Delhi, he developed a data-driven tool for urban climate adaptation. He has expertise in spatial data analytics, advanced econometrics, and participatory appraisal methods, and he has published sixteen journal papers, five book chapters, and six popular newspaper columns. His research on the climate vulnerability of rural households in the Himalayan foothills and heat-wave stress provides key insights into resilience-building strategies in the local context. Manoranjan has been awarded several reputed academic and institutional fellowships during his educational and research journey. These included JRF-SRF by UGC (2017-21), India Smart Cities Fellowship (ISCF-2022) by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt. of India, YECAP fellowship, and the Merit Scholarship by the Government of West Bengal (2013–15). At SSLA Pune, Dr. Ghosh is spearheading the development of a full-fledged B.Sc. program in Applied Environmental and Sustainability Sciences, an initiative that reflects his commitment to fostering interdisciplinary environmental education. His pedagogical philosophy is deeply rooted in experiential and problem-solving approaches, where he integrates field-based learning and cross-disciplinary analytical frameworks to engage students in real-world sustainability challenges. Beyond research, Dr. Ghosh is passionate about mentoring students and building an academic environment that fosters innovation, solving problems, and critical thinking. He envisions classrooms as dynamic spaces where knowledge creation is a shared endeavour between students and educators.
